'Legendary Pop Star' Queen Joins COVID-19 Support Song... To Medical Staff, "You Are the Champions"
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Park Hee-eun] Pop star Queen released a rewritten version of their classic song "We Are The Champions" titled "You Are The Champions" on the 1st (local time) to honor healthcare workers struggling with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Original members guitarist Brian May (73) and drummer Roger Taylor (71), along with vocalist Adam Lambert (38), recorded their parts from their homes in the UK and the US respectively. They produced the new version from their own residences.
Notably, Lambert changed the chorus line "We Are The Champions" to "You Are The Champions" as a tribute to the medical staff at the end of the song.
Earlier, pop stars such as Coldplay vocalist Chris Martin, Dua Lipa, Ellie Goulding, and Anne-Marie also joined in creating COVID-19 support songs.
BBC Radio 1 in the UK released the charity single "Times Like These" on the 23rd of last month (local time), featuring Chris Martin, Dua Lipa, and others. They sang the 2003 song by the American band Foo Fighters in a relay from their own homes to offer comfort to the public.
Streaming and download revenues from this song within the UK will be donated to the charities "Children in Need" and "Comic Relief."
