President Moon, on the Passage of the 'Disaster Relief Fund' Supplementary Budget: "Thankful for Opposition's Cooperation... Expecting Domestic Demand Boost"
[Asia Economy Reporter Son Sun-hee] President Moon Jae-in expressed gratitude on the 30th for the passage of the second supplementary budget bill for the payment of emergency disaster relief funds in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, saying, "I am thankful that the National Assembly reached an agreement and successfully passed the supplementary budget," according to Kang Min-seok, spokesperson for the Blue House.
Spokesperson Kang held a briefing at the Chuncheon Press Center that afternoon and conveyed, "President Moon especially appreciates the opposition parties for cooperating in passing the supplementary budget." Earlier that day, the National Assembly held a plenary session in the early morning and passed the second supplementary budget bill amounting to 12.2 trillion won.
Furthermore, President Moon urged, "The government should make every effort to prepare for the prompt payment of the emergency disaster relief funds to the people," adding, "It must be paid quickly in a way that is convenient for the people to receive."
The emergency disaster relief funds were decided at the 3rd Emergency Economic Meeting chaired by President Moon on the 30th of last month. According to Spokesperson Kang, President Moon cited the reasons for this decision as ▲support for the livelihoods of people in difficulty ▲comfort and recognition for the sacrifices made by the people in their daily activities ▲and stimulation of consumption.
