Jeonbuk Province Will Definitely Eliminate Livestock Odor
Establishment of the 'Five-Year Plan for Livestock Environment Improvement'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Tae-in] Jeonbuk Province announced on the 29th that it has established a ‘5-Year Livestock Environment Improvement Plan’ based on the Livestock Act for the sustainable development of the livestock industry.
This plan aims to realize ‘livestock industry in harmony with neighbors’ through livestock environment improvement by investing 127.4 billion KRW over five years in 23 projects across five major sectors (18 detailed tasks) to address the issue of livestock odor.
First, the province will expand the creation of clean livestock farms by installing ICT odor measurement machines and equipment for real-time management at farms supported by the manure project.
To fundamentally solve the problem of livestock odor, the province plans to support the ‘Wide-area Odor Improvement Project’ in settlement villages and collective pig farming complexes, mandating the installation of ‘ICT odor measurement machines and equipment’ to establish a continuous monitoring system.
Next, to improve awareness among livestock farmers, the province will expand the operation of ‘Livestock Environment Improvement Day’ and strengthen consulting and education on livestock environment improvement.
Cleaning, disinfection, and environment improvement days will be integrated into ‘Livestock Environment Improvement Day,’ held every Wednesday. Areas with frequent odor-related complaints will be intensively managed with customized consulting, and mandatory education in the ‘livestock environment sector’ will be provided to farms lacking environmental improvement awareness to enhance farmers’ consciousness.
Third, the support criteria for the livestock manure treatment support project will be strengthened to induce optimal manure treatment through practical support.
To this end, priority support for the livestock manure treatment support project will be given to farms certified for odor reduction, requiring the installation of odor prevention facilities. Joint resource facilities will be converted into low-odor energy facilities to resolve surrounding complaints.
Additionally, an annual survey will be conducted on 1,316 scattered liquid fertilizer storage tanks to continuously support odor reduction measures (roof repair, removal of fixed sludge, installation of agitators, etc.), producing and managing high-quality liquid fertilizer without odor.
Fourth, to promote the distribution of high-quality composted liquid fertilizer, supervision and inspection of composted liquid fertilizer production facilities will be strengthened to return high-quality composted liquid fertilizer to the soil and activate natural circulation agriculture. The province will promote distribution by securing demand for composted liquid fertilizer and continuously guide and inspect production facilities to comply with related standards.
Finally, to strengthen win-win cooperation among related departments, a Livestock Environment Improvement TF will be operated. Departments related to livestock environment (Livestock Division, Agricultural Distribution Division, Environmental Conservation Division, Water Environment Management Division, Saemangeum Water Quality Improvement Division) will form a permanent discussion body to enhance collaboration through regular operation for livestock environment improvement.
