Zhong Nanshan: "COVID-19 Turning Point at the End of May... Depends on the Situation in the United States"
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] The end of May, one month from now, has emerged as a crucial turning point in the global suppression of COVID-19.
According to Global Times on the 29th, Chinese infectious disease expert Zhong Nanshan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, answered at a forum held in Guangzhou the day before that the turning point for COVID-19 would be "the end of May."
He said, "The end of May will be an important milestone in the COVID-19 pandemic," adding, "It depends on the spread of COVID-19 outside China, especially in the United States."
He stated that COVID-19 control within China has achieved good results.
He added, "China has achieved good results in the first phase of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. However, since the number of infections worldwide has exceeded 3 million and the COVID-19 risk remains severe in Europe and the United States, preventing overseas re-importation cases of COVID-19 is currently the core of China's prevention measures. In some ways, this is more difficult than the initial response China took in the first phase."
