Future Korea Party "Strict Investigation of the Oh Keo-don Incident"... "How Were We?" Calls for Self-Reflection
[Asia Economy reporters Lee Ji-eun and Kim Hye-min] The Future Korea Party has raised its voice demanding a thorough investigation into the case of former Busan Mayor Oh Geo-don, who admitted to sexual harassment and resigned. Female lawmakers within the party emphasized that "we need to reflect on how we have acted so far" and stressed that the opposition party also needs self-reflection.
Won Yoo-chul, leader of the Future Korea Party, said at the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 28th, "The Democratic Party of Korea is consistently feigning ignorance and scapegoating in the Oh former mayor case, but the entire process of the incident must be clearly revealed."
Earlier, the Future Korea Party announced that it would form a special investigation committee on sexual misconduct to uncover the truth not only about the Oh former mayor case but also about Democratic Party elected lawmaker Kim Nam-guk’s podcast female whistleblower and the sexual assault case involving a secretary in Mayor Park Won-soon’s office. The investigation committee is chaired by lawmaker Song Hee-kyung, with elected lawmaker Jeon Ju-hye as secretary. Members include elected lawmaker Heo Eun-ah, recruited talent Kim Eun-hee, former advisory member of the National Human Rights Commission’s Special Sports Investigation Team, and Shin Min-a, CEO of Veritaum.
Leader Won pointed out, "The police only began a full-scale investigation four days after former Mayor Oh resigned. Since this was concealed with the general election in mind, public suspicion is snowballing. The law firm that notarized Oh’s resignation is Busan Law Firm, whose representative is the nephew-in-law of former President Roh Moo-hyun, who was appointed by President Moon Jae-in and served as the head of talent recruitment for Oh’s election campaign. The secretary team also includes former Blue House administrative officers."
Kim Ki-seon, chairman of the Future Korea Party’s Policy Committee, also criticized, "The more you look into the Oh former mayor case, the more bizarre it becomes. It is not only a political issue but also a situation where strict legal responsibility must be demanded. The Blue House and the Democratic Party claim they had no knowledge of the sexual harassment case until it was made public after two weeks, and the law firm that notarized it after the general election was established by President Moon."
Among the female members of the investigation committee, voices calling for "self-reflection by the Future Korea Party" also emerged. Committee member Kim Eun-hee said, "There are criticisms that this incident is a selective outrage by women’s and human rights organizations, but we need to reflect on how we have acted so far. We must review how proactive and preemptive the party has been regarding sexual crimes, violence against women, child abuse cases, and incidents in human rights blind spots, and fundamentally what has been done."

Committee member Heo Eun-ah added, "In the future, the Future Korea Party should show a more realistic and practical approach to politics. The Oh former mayor incident is no exception. If the party has decided to approach this from the victim’s perspective, it would be good to issue a statement from the victim or actively participate in understanding the victim’s position more closely."
