Emart Offers Up to 40% Off Health Foods Like Hanwoo Beef, Eel, and Abalone During 'Golden Holiday'
On May 2nd, 'Half-Price Duck' Also Available for Ori Day
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Emart is holding a discount event on nourishing foods for the whole family such as Korean beef, eel, abalone, and duck ahead of the upcoming "Golden Holiday" at the end of this month.
Emart announced on the 28th that from the 29th of this month to the 6th of next month, for 8 days, it will sell Korean beef, eel, abalone, and other family foods at up to 40% off.
First, through a joint plan with the Korean Beef Self-Support Committee, all Korean beef products from domestic production areas will be sold at up to 40% discount. When paying with the event card, a 30% discount is available, and an additional 10% discount applies when paying with a KB Kookmin Card. With a 40% discount using the event card, domestic Korean beef sirloin grade 1+ (100g, refrigerated) can be purchased for 7,380 won, Korean beef sirloin grade 1 (100g, refrigerated) for 6,300 won, and soup cuts/bulgogi grade 1 for 2,988 won.
For eel and abalone, when accumulating Shinsegae points, they can be purchased at 40% and 35% discounted prices respectively. ‘Prepared freshwater eel’ is sold at 14,880 won (per piece) and 4,788 won (per 100g) with a 40% discount. Domestic abalone (special grade, 100g) is offered at 3,900 won.
Additionally, the 'Amazing Alone Chicken' (approximately 475g), consisting of half a fried chicken, is planned to be sold for 3,980 won when purchased with the event card. The Alone Chicken was test sold at Emart Wolgye branch from March 14 to April 22 for 40 days, selling about 4,600 units at a single store, which is more than four times better than regular chicken. Chicken sales at the Wolgye branch also increased by 32.7% compared to the previous year.
On May 2, to celebrate Duck Day, half-price duck will be offered. From the 29th of this month to the 2nd of next month, for just 4 days, all refrigerated and frozen duck products in the livestock section will be sold at a 50% discount when accumulating Shinsegae points.
The reason Emart is holding this family nourishing food discount event is due to increased demand for nourishing foods caused by COVID-19 and other factors. From February 17 to April 26, sales of Emart’s representative nourishing foods increased by 210.2% compared to the previous year. Abalone sales grew by 57.6%, while duck and Korean beef increased by 11.7% and 8.6% respectively. Notably, eel, which recently underwent a large-scale discount event, sold more than during the peak demand period of Chobok (early summer heat).
Choi Hoon-hak, Emart’s marketing manager, said, “In anticipation of the long golden holiday in May, we planned a discount event on family foods to help customers who are worried about home meals to eat well and gain strength,” adding, “We hope customers take care of their health by enjoying nourishing foods through this event during the long holiday period.”
