Shinsegae TV Shopping Implements 100% Digitalization of Broadcast Stage
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Shinsegae TV Shopping will be the first in the home shopping industry to implement 100% digitalization of the broadcast stage.
Shinsegae TV Shopping announced on the 28th that starting from May, it will install digital walls (large-scale LED screens) in all of its production studios to create stage visuals solely through digital screens without producing physical broadcast sets.
The digital walls introduced by Shinsegae TV Shopping are the highest specification among those owned by domestic broadcasters, consisting of two connected 8K resolution LED screens (17,280×2,112 pixels) measuring 26 meters wide and 3.2 meters high.
With the introduction of the digital walls, Shinsegae TV Shopping expects to achieve innovative cost savings in broadcast production expenses, preparation time, and materials.
In fact, it will be possible to drastically reduce set production costs and broadcast preparation time. Without the hassle of installing and dismantling sets for each broadcast, the stage background can be changed through screen visuals, resulting in an annual 50% reduction in production costs and a significant shortening of broadcast preparation time.
Additionally, since wooden materials used for set production will no longer be needed, it is expected to reduce disposal costs and contribute to environmental protection.
The limitations in expressing products for sale are also expected to be greatly improved. Until now, intangible products such as interior design and insurance had limitations in product image representation through analog sets. However, with the digital walls that have no physical expression constraints, these products can be shown in more detail, enabling a wider range of product demonstrations.
Meanwhile, Shinsegae TV Shopping introduced digital walls in its second studio in October last year for pilot operation, and after proving the efficiency of digital sets, it decided to install digital walls in all its studios. The videos displayed on the screens are all produced in-house by Shinsegae TV Shopping.
Currently, some home shopping companies use digital walls only for specific broadcast products, and the equipment is operated through long-term rental.
