Underwear Laundry Assignment Teacher: "No Communication with Parents... 'Sexy Panties' Are a Misunderstanding"
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Juhee] A teacher at an elementary school in Ulsan, who caused controversy by assigning first-grade students to wash their underwear as homework and leaving sexually suggestive comments, stated that "assigning the task without sufficient communication with parents was a mistake."
On the 27th, a user A, who originally posted a message titled "Is the first-grade teacher at the elementary school normal?" on an online community, additionally revealed a statement received from the teacher B in question.
According to the post, teacher B (male) at an elementary school in Ulsan issued a statement beginning with the phrase, "What is communication?" regarding the controversy.
Teacher B said, "One of the parents in my class filed a complaint with the education office, and I received a call from them," adding, "Regarding the comments I made, the homeroom teacher seems like someone who judges children by their appearance... I think that’s possible because they don’t know me." "However, I believe that if they had contacted me directly, misunderstandings could have been cleared up. I don’t think posting this here (online community) is communication," he added.
He continued, "I think it hurts my feelings as internet malicious comments when an unspecified number of people who don’t know me talk about me or come to my YouTube channel to insult me," and "If the person who posted this is a parent of my class, I wish they had contacted me personally or through the class band to share their opinions so that the homework could have been changed. Assigning such a task without sufficient communication with parents was a mistake. I apologize," he explained.
Regarding the sexually suggestive comments left on students’ posts, he said, "Since it was online classes and I thought the children would be eager to come to school, I left comments," adding, "If my expression of 'sexy panties' caused any misunderstanding, I will refrain from mentioning such things in the future."
He also lamented, "The situation has become more serious than I thought, and many people at the school have had to receive calls, explain, and even convene the school’s sexual violence committee because of me," adding, "It’s hard to endure as it causes harm to others."
After receiving this statement, user A posted, "The problem was not that the homework could have been changed, but that teacher B does not seem to realize that his own reaction is the problem."
Earlier that day, a post on an online community sparked controversy by claiming that a first-grade homeroom teacher assigned inappropriate homework such as washing underwear to students.
According to the post, teacher B recently assigned "washing your own underwear" as a filial piety homework task for the first weekend after school started via SNS. Students each posted photos of themselves washing their underwear on the class band.
Seeing this, teacher B left sexually suggestive comments such as "charming and sexy friend," "Our princess, your pink underwear is pretty," "Pretty pajamas, pretty underwear(?) shy shy," and "Underwear is pretty."
It was confirmed that teacher B had assigned the same homework to other students a year ago and uploaded a video titled "Sexy panties, washing by oneself" on YouTube. After parents raised concerns, the video has since been deleted.
