Coupang Directly Purchases Products from Gwangju and Jeju Farmers and Small Business Owners Who Lost Sales Channels
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Coupang announced on the 27th that it will hold the 'Cheer Up Korea' special exhibition in cooperation with local governments in Gwangju and Jeju. 'Cheer Up Korea' is a special exhibition for regional coexistence, where Coupang directly purchases products from small business owners and agricultural, fishery, and livestock producers who have lost sales channels due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). Marketing support, including Coupang's main advertising exposure, is also provided to directly help increase sales of companies in the respective regions.
Coupang started the 'Cheer Up Korea' special exhibition on the 7th with Daegu and Gyeongbuk, and this week, it will showcase about 380 products from companies in the Gwangju and Jeju regions through Rocket Delivery. Regional specialties can be received by 7 a.m. the next day via Rocket Fresh.
Through the 'Cheer Up Korea' special exhibition, Coupang has introduced 2,274 products in cooperation with 142 companies from seven regions: Daegu, Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam, Daejeon, Chungbuk, Gwangju, and Jeju. Coupang is also considering a plan to accept store applications through local governments to cooperate with more local mini-enterprises. The 'Cheer Up Korea' special exhibition will continue until the end of this year.
Yoon Hye-young, Vice President of Coupang Retail, said, "With Coupang's logistics network, we can provide small business owners in the regions with a stable sales channel and greater business opportunities," adding, "We will continue to discover companies and increase direct purchase volumes to contribute to the recovery of daily life throughout Korea."
