"Enjoy High-Quality Sashimi at Home" Dongwon Industries Expands Online Seafood Marketing
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Dongwon Industries is strengthening its seafood marketing targeting consumers by expanding online sales channels in line with the growing trend of "untact (contactless) consumption."
On the 27th, Dongwon Industries announced that it recently started online sales of five types of tuna sashimi and smoked salmon products through Coupang. Consumers can now enjoy Dongwon Industries' high-quality sashimi fresh at home through Coupang's dawn delivery service. Notably, Dongwon Industries' sashimi products have received international certifications for sustainable seafood from MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) and ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council).
Dongwon Industries is also selling tuna sashimi and smoked salmon products through its food-specialized online mall, Dongwon Mall. The offerings include premium tuna belly and lean meat cuts, as well as even fresher Norwegian smoked salmon delivered by air and smoked salmon prepared using Northern European smoking methods.
The reason Dongwon Industries is actively pursuing seafood sales online is due to the increasing consumption of seafood through online channels. Especially with recent social distancing measures reducing visits to offline stores and sharply decreasing dining-out demand, seafood consumption online has significantly increased.
It is expected that consumers' online seafood purchases will continue to expand further. According to a trend analysis released by the Korea Maritime Institute on the 31st of last month, weekly sales at large retail stores decreased by 5% immediately after the outbreak of COVID-19, while online sales increased by 30%. Additionally, in February, seafood sales increased by 188.1% on SSG.com compared to the same period last year, and fresh salmon sales on Lotte.com surged by 2680%, showing a continuing increase in online sales.
As consumers increasingly enjoy various sashimi at home through delivery orders, Dongwon Industries is also strengthening its delivery system. In cooperation with "Chamchi Rider," a sashimi delivery franchise, consumers can enjoy fresh tuna sashimi and smoked salmon without visiting stores directly.
Furthermore, when customers order sashimi by phone or online, Dongwon plans to introduce a system that quickly delivers packaged sashimi from department stores and large marts serving as regional hubs.
