Interest in 'Air Purifiers' Soars After the Full-Scale Spread of COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] As the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) began to spread in earnest, interest in 'air purifiers' has also surged significantly.
On the 25th, the Global Big Data Research Institute (Director Dasom Kim) investigated the volume of big data information related to air purifiers from LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Winix, Xiaomi, Dyson, and Coway across 12 channels including news, communities, blogs, cafes, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, KakaoStory, Knowledge iN, companies/organizations, and government/public sectors.
The investigation period was divided into two 48-day intervals to accurately compare the trend in information volume: from January 1 to February 17, and from February 18, when the 31st confirmed COVID-19 case occurred in Daegu, to April 5.
As a result of the analysis, interest in air purifiers from all six companies sharply increased after February 18.
For LG Electronics air purifiers, the information volume was 28,931 cases during the 48 days from January 1 to February 17, but interest rose to 55,688 cases in the 48 days from February 18 to April 12, an increase of 26,757 cases or 92.48%. This means it nearly doubled.
Samsung Electronics air purifiers increased from 16,518 cases between January 1 and February 17 to 37,650 cases from February 18 to April 12, a surge of 21,132 cases or 127.93%, more than doubling.
Xiaomi air purifiers also rose from 13,269 cases to 28,506 cases during the same periods, an increase of 15,237 cases or 114.83%.
Winix air purifiers increased from 14,601 cases between January 1 and February 17 to 28,063 cases from February 18 to April 12, a rise of 13,462 cases or 92.20%.
Dyson saw an increase from 5,727 cases to 14,471 cases during the same periods, a surge of 8,744 cases or 152.68%, recording the highest growth rate in interest among the six companies' air purifiers.
