[Yang Nak-gyu's Defense Club] This Time, a Colonel Eavesdrops in the Command and Control Room
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu Reporter] It has been revealed that an army colonel eavesdropped on the command and control room used by the unit commander. There are growing concerns that the recent series of incidents, accidents, and security leaks within the military indicate a severe breakdown in military discipline.
According to the army on the 24th, Colonel A is suspected of connecting the communication network of the corps command and control room, a military control zone, to his unit office and eavesdropping from January to March this year. Investigations revealed that Colonel A eavesdropped on the microphone at the superior's seat in the command and control room.
Colonel A, who usually had access to the command and control room, reportedly stated that he connected to the communication network to understand the intentions behind the commander's remarks when he was unable to attend meetings. However, the military police obtained intelligence and booked Colonel A at the end of last month, and the Security Support Unit has also launched an investigation on charges including violation of the Military Secrets Protection Act. Colonel A was dismissed from his post on the 22nd.
Meanwhile, a non-commissioned officer (NCO) belonging to a unit directly under the Ministry of National Defense was found to have assaulted a soldier after losing a 'betting table tennis' game. Sergeant A, belonging to the Ministry of National Defense's Remains Recovery and Identification Unit, played betting table tennis with three soldiers at the unit's table tennis court around 4 p.m. on the 9th of this month. Although no actual money was exchanged in the betting table tennis, the amounts were verbally agreed upon. Sergeant A is suspected of assaulting one soldier after expelling the other soldiers who were playing together when he lost the game. Military investigators are currently investigating after confirming that Sergeant A grabbed the soldier by the collar and pushed him.
