The Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 27 (Presiding Judge Kim Sun-il) held a sentencing hearing on the afternoon of the 24th for Yoon, who was indicted on charges including violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (accepting bribes), and delivered this verdict.
The court stated, "This does not fall under the case of making another public official perform duties they are not obligated to do, and it does not appear that stocks were received as a bribe," adding, "It also does not seem that stock trading was conducted based on the information received."
The court also noted that the prosecution's evidence was insufficient to convict on the charge of instructing evidence destruction.
However, the court added, "This does not mean that the defendant is 100% innocent or that the charges are untrue."
Yoon was tried on charges of receiving stocks worth tens of millions of won from Jeong Mo, former CEO (46) of Nokwon CNI (formerly Cubes), a special ink manufacturing company.
Jeong was also indicted for abusing authority to intervene in the case during a police investigation in 2016 on charges including violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (fraud and embezzlement).
Yoon is also accused of ordering Jeong to delete all Telegram and other mobile phone messages during the Burning Sun investigation.
