"Online School Opening Support" LGU+ Donates 10,000 'Smart Pads' to 15 Education Offices
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] LG Uplus is addressing the digital education gap by donating 10,000 educational smartpads to 15 education offices nationwide. The smartpads supported by LG Uplus are Wi-Fi-only free devices. They can be additionally used for digital education even after the online class sessions end.
On the 24th, LG Uplus announced that it held a donation ceremony for 500 educational smartpads at the Jongno Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, attended by Superintendent Cho Hee-yeon and LG Uplus Vice Chairman Ha Hyun-hoe, to facilitate smooth online classes. Starting with the donation of 2,100 educational smartpads to Jeollanam-do and the Jeollanam-do Office of Education on the 8th, LG Uplus supported 1,000 units to the Chungnam Office of Education on the 17th, 400 units to the Jeonbuk Office of Education on the 22nd, 1,000 units to the Gyeongbuk Office of Education, and 800 units to the Gangwon Office of Education. By early May, an additional 6,800 units will be provided to a total of 15 education offices nationwide to ensure smooth educational activities such as remote classes due to the online school opening. If the currently discussed additional support is completed, a total of approximately 10,000 smartpads will be donated nationwide.

Superintendent Cho Hee-yeon of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education said, “At a time when students, parents, and teachers are all embarking on a new path due to the first-ever online school opening, we are grateful for LG Uplus’s donation,” adding, “This donation will not only serve as a catalyst for social participation to overcome the COVID-19 crisis but is also expected to increase interest in support for students facing difficult educational conditions, such as those requiring special education and multicultural students, enabling them to focus on their classes.” LG Uplus Vice Chairman Ha Hyun-hoe stated, “We actively support the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and teachers and students nationwide who are working hard to prepare for the unprecedented online school opening so that they can fully concentrate on education and learning,” and added, “We will strive to overcome the COVID-19 crisis by considering additional support measures utilizing LG Uplus’s excellent communication technology.”
