Request to Refrain from Visits Made at Press Conference
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Won Hee-ryong, Governor of Jeju Province, expressed concern on the 23rd, stating, "Approximately 180,000 tourists are expected to visit Jeju during the golden holiday period, which worries us greatly," and urged, "Please refrain from traveling to Jeju as much as possible."
At a press conference held at the Jeju Provincial Office on the same day, Governor Won said, "With social distancing measures being eased nationwide, we are approaching a long holiday from Buddha’s Birthday on April 30 to Children’s Day on May 5," adding, "While it is only natural to warmly welcome visitors who love Jeju, we cannot relax quarantine measures and feel safe until COVID-19 treatments and vaccines are available."
He continued, "Despite difficulties, the people of Jeju have united to protect the island so far, and since the COVID-19 crisis is not completely over, we will continue to maintain a strengthened quarantine system at the border level," appealing, "If you have any symptoms, please refrain from visiting Jeju as much as possible, and if you must visit, actively cooperate with the enhanced quarantine measures."
