Jeonnam Province's 'Farmer and Fisherman Public Interest Allowance' Payment Progresses Smoothly
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Jeonnam Province's payment of the 'Jeonnam-type Farmer and Fisherman Public Interest Allowance' is progressing smoothly.
According to Jeonnam Province on the 23rd, the 'Jeonnam-type Farmer and Fisherman Public Interest Allowance' is a policy introduced for the first time nationwide to ensure that the public interest functions of agriculture, fisheries, and rural areas are maintained to the greatest extent possible.
Originally, the farmer and fisherman public interest allowance of 600,000 won was scheduled to be paid in two installments in May and October, but it was recently decided to pay it in a lump sum to help farmers and fishermen who are struggling due to 'COVID-19'.
Currently, starting with Jangheung-gun, which has completed administrative procedures such as selecting recipients among the 22 cities and counties in the province, 11 cities and counties in Jeonnam have begun paying the farmer and fisherman public interest allowance. The remaining 11 cities and counties plan to complete payments by early next month.
Jindo-gun, which recently started payments, is distributing the allowance by visiting villages directly in cooperation with local agricultural cooperatives to practice social distancing and for the convenience of farmers and fishermen.
A farmer in Jindo-gun said, "It is the first time that local love gift certificates have been distributed like this to help farmers during difficult times," adding, "As a resident of Jeonnam, I feel very proud and honored."
The local shopping districts are also regaining vitality. Since the farmer and fisherman public interest allowance is paid in local currency that can only be used within the city or county, it is a great help to small business owners in operating their stores.
There is no inconvenience in the use of local currency by farmers and fishermen. The number of affiliated stores has expanded to various industries easily accessible to farmers and fishermen, including pesticide stores, restaurants, hair salons, and gas stations, greatly contributing to the revitalization of local currency circulation.
