At the event held on the 22nd at the NHIS Wonju headquarters, NHIS employees decided to purchase half of the 200 tons of eco-friendly pesticide-free potatoes remaining in the Gangwon region, which were not consumed due to school closures and online classes. The NHIS plans to send some of these potatoes to its 178 branches nationwide to be distributed to local social welfare facilities and vulnerable groups.
The NHIS and Gangwon Province also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for continuous regional economic revitalization and agreed to cooperate to expand sales channels for agricultural, livestock, and fishery products produced in the Gangwon region.
Choi Moon-soon, Governor of Gangwon Province, said, "Potato farmers in the region have been in a very difficult situation due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and delayed school openings," adding, "We gained great strength as NHIS employees participated in purchasing potatoes through this project."
