Gwangju Nam-gu Establishes the 12th Future Forest on Inseong High School Campus
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byung-nae) announced on the 22nd that it will create the 12th Mirae Forest in the district on the grounds of Inseong High School to cultivate students' emotions and provide a green resting place for local residents.
Mirae Forest is a type of school forest created in the section from the school gate to the building, designed so that students and residents can use the lush green forest as a space for meditation and rest.
In Nam-gu, since 2010, Mirae Forests have been created in 1 to 2 schools annually in cooperation with the Korea Forest Service.
About 60 million KRW will be invested in the construction of the 12th Mirae Forest in the district at Inseong High School, and the construction is expected to be completed around July.
The Mirae Forest will be created on a 450㎡ plot of leftover land on the right side of the Inseong High School gate.
It will be planted with 122 trees of 16 species including Zelkova, Japanese Cherry, Camellia, and Ipop trees, as well as 455 beautiful flowering herbaceous plants.
Additionally, a soil-paved path adding charm between the flowers and trees and an approximately 8-meter-long sitting wall along with six benches will be installed in the center of the Mirae Forest.
A Nam-gu official said, “Since the ecological park is created along the school boundary, students and nearby residents can comfortably rest here. It will not only serve as a resting place but also become an opportunity to strengthen the bond between the school and local residents, raising interest in the educational environment conditions.”
