Hyundai ENG Wins 420 Billion KRW Contract for Taiwan Combined Cycle Power Plant Expansion Project
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Hyundai Engineering announced on the 22nd that it has won the $340 million (approximately 420 billion KRW) 'Taiwan Datan Combined Cycle Power Plant Expansion Project.' With this order, Hyundai Engineering has taken its first step into the Taiwanese power plant market.
The Datan Combined Cycle Power Plant Expansion Project involves expanding Unit 7 of the Datan Power Plant, located about 50 km west of Taipei, the capital of Taiwan. The project adds a 300 MW-class steam turbine generator (STG) to the existing facilities.
Taiwan Power Company (TPC), the state-owned electric utility responsible for 75% of Taiwan's total power generation capacity, is expanding its generation capacity to ensure stable power supply across Taiwan. This Datan Combined Cycle Power Plant Expansion Project is part of the plan to increase generation capacity.
Hyundai Engineering emphasized the significance of this project as its first power plant project in Taiwan and as an achievement based on a collaboration model between a construction company and a global general trading company. The company stated, "Mitsubishi Corporation, a global general trading company, first proposed Hyundai Engineering's participation as an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contractor," adding, "This means Hyundai Engineering's overseas power plant capabilities are recognized worldwide."
