View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kang Sharon] The Democratic Party members of the Tongyeong City Council in Gyeongnam have donated relief funds related to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), Tongyeong City announced on the 22nd.
Council members Bae Yoon-joo, Kim Yong-an, Jeong Gwang-ho, Lee Seung-min, and Kim Hye-kyung returned 30% of their three months' worth of council activity expenses and monthly allowances, raising a total of 13.5 million KRW, with 2.7 million KRW per person.
Through a press conference on the 26th of last month, they kept their promise to citizens who voluntarily returned 30% of their salaries for three months, stating, "We want to join in helping all Tongyeong citizens recover their daily lives as soon as possible."
At the donation ceremony, Vice Chairman Bae Yoon-joo said, "We want to overcome the national disaster of the COVID-19 situation early and share the economic difficulties of local residents," adding, "Before being a council member, I want to be a member of the local community and provide some support to neighbors."
Tongyeong Mayor Kang Seok-ju expressed gratitude, saying, "As COVID-19 prolongs, we will strive to help citizens who are suffering from the economic downturn return to their daily lives as soon as possible."
