40s Man Who Lost Salary Gambling Arrested for Indiscriminate Assault on Unknown Woman
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Seul-gi] A man in his 40s who chased and indiscriminately assaulted a woman he did not know while she was on her way home was arrested by the police.
On the 22nd, the Gwangju Bukbu Police Station announced that they have apprehended and are investigating Mr. Hwang (46) on charges of threatening and assaulting a woman he chased while she was returning home (including injury charges).
Mr. Hwang is accused of dragging the victim in an alley in Duam-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju, around 2:30 a.m. on the 14th, knocking her to the ground, kicking her, and then fleeing the scene.
According to the police investigation, Mr. Hwang chased the victim for about 100 meters while she was on her way home, threatened her by saying "If you scream, I will kill you," and committed the assault when the victim resisted. The victim sustained injuries requiring about two weeks of treatment due to Mr. Hwang's assault.
After receiving the report, the police tracked the suspect's escape route and arrested Mr. Hwang in the Jeonnam region.
During the police investigation, Mr. Hwang stated, "I lost my entire 2 million won salary gambling at an adult game center, and I acted out of frustration."
