Shinhan Financial Group Launches 2nd COVID-19 Donation Campaign... "Cheer Up, Self-Employed"
Support for Small and Medium Businesses and Underprivileged Groups: 'Hope Together Campaign 2nd Funding' Launched
[Asia Economy Reporter Haeyoung Kwon] Shinhan Financial Group announced on the 19th that it will conduct the 'Hope Together Campaign 2nd Funding' until the 17th of next month, supporting small and medium-sized business owners and self-employed individuals whose sales have plummeted due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), and delivering daily necessities and food to marginalized groups facing difficulties in their daily lives.
Since last month, Shinhan Financial Group has been running the Hope Together Campaign through a social donation project on the crowdfunding platform Wadiz, involving all group companies, aiming to raise a total of 5 billion KRW to support people struggling due to the spread of COVID-19. The first funding, which supported medical staff in Daegu and Gyeongbuk and marginalized children, was a great success with over 3,000 supporters and Shinhan Financial Group employees participating, raising about 1.44 billion KRW.
The second funding, conducted under the subtitle "Hope Together Campaign, Cheer Up Self-Employed," aims to support the revitalization of the local economy, which has been weakened by COVID-19, and to help small business owners and self-employed individuals who have suffered direct and indirect damage through consumption stimulation. The amount raised in this funding will be fully exchanged for 'Onnuri Gift Certificates' to be used for purchasing daily necessities and food in local markets and neighborhood commercial districts. The purchased items will be delivered to marginalized groups and people with disabilities nationwide through the Korea Association of Social Welfare Centers.
In particular, in this second funding, in addition to the relay donations from Shinhan Financial Group companies, voluntary additional participation from group companies continues. The Shinhan Bank Corporate Group will provide 10,000 'Love Sharing Lunchboxes' worth about 100 million KRW, made by alumni companies of the Shinhan SOHO Academy engaged in the food industry, to increase sales for small business owners and support vulnerable groups. Shinhan Card and Shinhan Life Insurance will participate in the funding with an additional 30 million KRW and 20 million KRW raised through employee salary donations, respectively. The Shinhan Financial Hope Foundation will purchase soap and hand sanitizers produced at the Gangnam Saeum Protected Workshop, where 76 people with severe disabilities belong, and provide them as rewards to supporters participating in the second funding.
Cho Yong-byeong, Chairman of Shinhan Financial Group, said, "I am grateful for the great interest in the Hope Together Campaign, which was planned with the intention of overcoming this difficulty by joining forces with the people and Shinhan Financial." He added, "Shinhan Financial will do its best with all group companies to help small and medium-sized business owners and self-employed individuals suffering from COVID-19 and to overcome this crisis."
