[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] "To enjoy a concert from the veranda of my home like this... I thought it only happened abroad."
Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Wono) prepared the 'Veranda Concert' to relieve the psychological stress of residents who lost their daily lives due to the prolonged high-intensity social distancing caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This concert idea was inspired by scenes recently seen in Italy, where people in self-quarantine came out onto their balconies to sing and play instruments, overcoming the frustration and depression of staying indoors through music. The concert was organized to visit open spaces or playgrounds within apartment complexes so that residents could enjoy various music and songs from their verandas.
On the 20th at 3 p.m., the musical gala concert team 'RAUM' will visit Wangsimni Xi Apartments located in Hawangsimni. They will present familiar musical hits such as 'This Is the Moment' from the musical Jekyll & Hyde and 'Dancing Queen' from Mamma Mia with splendid vocal skills. On the 22nd, a concert will be held at Wangsimni KCC Switzen Apartments, and on the 24th at Haengdang-dong Sambu Apartments at 5 p.m.
The district plans to operate concerts primarily in apartment complexes that applied from the 20th until May 11th. Various types of concerts including musical gala performances, traditional Korean music, jazz, and classical music will be held, and a donation performance by singer Bada, who recently donated hand sanitizers to Seongdong-gu, is also prepared.
A district official stated, "We will strengthen sound equipment during performances and deploy sound experts on site to create an environment where high-quality music appreciation is possible even from the veranda," adding, "We will also thoroughly manage COVID-19 safety by conducting disinfection before and after performances, preparing hand sanitizers, and ensuring mask-wearing."
