Singapore Approaches 6,000 Cumulative COVID-19 Cases... Surge in Infections Among Migrant Workers
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] In Singapore, nearly 1,000 new daily cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) have been reported, bringing the total number of confirmed cases close to 6,000.
On the 18th, according to local media such as The Straits Times, the Singapore Ministry of Health announced that 942 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, increasing the cumulative total to 5,992.
The 942 cases represent the highest number of daily confirmed cases, surpassing the previous record of 728 cases on the 16th.
The Ministry of Health explained that the majority of these cases are migrant workers residing in dormitories. Excluding these, there were 14 cases of community transmission.
The Ministry stated that detailed information related to the confirmed cases would be disclosed later that night.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Facebook that "efforts are underway to break the chain of infection within migrant worker dormitories, but it will take time to see results," and added, "for the time being, we must expect to see more cases among migrant workers in dormitories."
