Russia Surpasses 36,000 Confirmed COVID-19 Cases
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] The cumulative number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Russia surpassed 36,000 on the 18th (local time). The number of new daily confirmed cases approached 5,000 as of that day.
On the morning of the same day, the Russian government's COVID-19 Inflow and Spread Prevention Headquarters announced that 4,785 additional confirmed cases were reported across 79 regions, including Moscow, over the past day. The total cumulative confirmed cases increased to 36,793.
In the capital city Moscow, 2,649 additional confirmed cases were reported, raising the cumulative infections to 20,754. Additionally, 428 new confirmed cases were reported in the Moscow region outside the city, and 139 new cases in Saint Petersburg.
The nationwide COVID-19 death toll also increased by 40 in one day, bringing the total to 313.

The government headquarters reported that 3,057 of the confirmed cases have recovered so far, and the total number of tests conducted has increased to 1.81 million. The number of tests conducted in a single day reached 100,000.
