Yeosu Gwangyang Port Corporation, Korea's First 'Eco-Friendly Smart Approach Light' Project 추진
A Total Project Budget of 800 Million KRW Planned for 2 Years of R&D Support
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Cha Min-sik, hereinafter referred to as the Authority) announced on the 17th that it will promote the research and development project of the "Eco-friendly Smart Berthing Light," the first of its kind in Korea, to prevent ship collision accidents and create an eco-friendly port.
The "Eco-friendly Smart Berthing Light" is a system that can prevent ship collision accidents occurring in harsh environments such as nighttime and fog by providing real-time measurement data through the ship berthing speed detection function. It also incorporates a self-generating solar module, enabling carbon emission reduction.
For this project, the Authority submitted a research and development (R&D) project plan to the Korea Institute of Marine Science and Technology Promotion in February, passed the first document screening, completed the proposal presentation this month, and is currently awaiting the final project selection results.
If selected as a project, the research and development will be conducted over two years with a total budget of 800 million KRW, shared by the Authority at 19%, the government at 73%, and small and medium enterprises and Korea University at 8%.
Furthermore, after completing the R&D project, the Authority plans to support small and medium enterprises by providing opportunities for prototype production projects, helping them find ways to coexist amid the economic downturn caused by COVID-19.
