Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office Investigates 70 Election Offense Suspects, Including 7 Elected Officials
3 Out of 73 Indicted Persons Were Not Prosecuted
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin] The Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office, which has jurisdiction over Daejeon Metropolitan City, Sejong Special Self-Governing City, and Chungcheongnam-do, is investigating seven elected candidates from the 21st National Assembly general election.
According to the prosecution on the 17th, as of the previous day, the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Doo-bong) has registered 73 election-related suspects within its jurisdiction (including five branch offices), of whom three have been dismissed without indictment, and investigations are ongoing for the remaining 70.
Among those registered, seven are elected candidates, reportedly involved in 14 cases.
Previously, in some electoral districts of Daejeon, Sejong, and parts of Chungnam, competition among candidates intensified, leading to a series of complaints and accusations.
There were also cases of false credentials being published in election brochures and illegal provision of food to constituents.

A prosecution official stated, "In principle, the prosecution plans to directly investigate cases reported by the Election Commission, cases involving key persons such as candidates' spouses or direct relatives that affect the validity of election results, and cases that are the focus of intensive crackdowns."
