Sales of Indoor Leisure Items Increase Evenly Due to Social Distancing Measures
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, items that allow people to enjoy leisure activities indoors are gaining popularity.
Wemakeprice announced on the 17th that sales of indoor leisure-related products increased by up to nearly 9 times compared to the same period last year over six weeks from April 1 to April 11. This is because more people are looking for things to enjoy at home due to social distancing.
The product with the largest increase was the board game Burumable, enjoyed by people of all ages, which surged 8.8 times (778%). Sales of Rummikub (46%), Da Vinci Code (46%), and Jenga (22%) also increased.
DIY items that can be made and assembled directly also saw growth. Sales of DIY famous painting drawing kits increased by 410%, DIY miniatures by 363%, and self DIY interior-related products by 207%.
Home cafe-related appliances also saw a sharp rise in sales. Coffee machines, waffle makers, and sandwich makers increased by 248%, 237%, and 229% respectively compared to the previous year. Sales of home baking-related products such as frozen dough, electronic scales, and cookie cutters also rose by 99%.
Additionally, as more people enjoy movies and music at home, demand for beam projectors (392%), home theaters (59%), and Bluetooth speakers (52%) increased. Balcony gardening sets for home gardening also grew by 72%.
