KOLMAR Korea Develops Anti-Aging Material Using Native Plants
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] Kolmar Korea announced on the 14th that it has developed and patented ingredients that prevent aging and protect the skin from extracts of Stellaria, sunflower, and Gaultheria, which are native to most regions in Korea.
In March last year, Kolmar Korea succeeded in developing materials by discovering anti-aging ingredients from the aquatic plants Nuphar and Octopus Legs native to Korea. This time, the company has succeeded in developing materials using ingredients from other native Korean plants such as Stellaria, sunflower, and Gaultheria, leading the localization of cosmetic raw materials.
The ingredients of Stellaria, sunflower, and Gaultheria have effects that inhibit reactive oxygen species that accelerate skin aging and prevent the production of collagen-degrading enzymes, but there were limitations in developing the optimal mixing ratio to maximize efficacy.
Kolmar Korea started research last year and succeeded in formulating the mixture within a year, creating a material that can be applied to cosmetics. This material not only protects the skin from blue light emitted by TVs, smartphones, and ultraviolet rays from sunlight but also aids gene expression to achieve skin regeneration effects. In particular, since the plants themselves are non-toxic, they act gently on skin cells and can be used in all cosmetic formulations such as skincare and personal care products.
Jinyoung Kim, Principal Researcher at Kolmar Korea's Convergence Technology Research Institute, said, "This development will increase the utilization of native Korean plants and contribute to reducing dependence on overseas sources," adding, "We plan to discover fundamental anti-aging ingredients based on native plants in the future."
