Samsung Display Factory Employee Tests Positive for COVID-19 in Vietnam... "Partial Factory Closure"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] One local employee working at Samsung Display's Bac Ninh factory in Vietnam tested positive for COVID-19, leading to the partial closure of the factory.
According to major foreign media and local outlets such as VN Express on the 13th, the Vietnamese Ministry of Health announced in a statement that a 25-year-old male employee at the display factory in Bac Ninh, northern Vietnam, tested positive for COVID-19 in a test conducted the previous day. This man was identified as patient number 262 and was one of two newly confirmed cases in the Ha Loi area of Me Linh district, Hanoi.
The Ministry of Health explained that the man first showed symptoms of dry cough and fever on the 31st of last month after meeting his uncle, who was confirmed positive for COVID-19 on the 27th. The man commuted daily by shuttle bus. The Bac Ninh Provincial People's Committee reported that 106 Samsung employees had contact with patient number 262, of whom 42 were quarantined, while the health status of the others is being monitored.
Accordingly, Samsung Display temporarily closed part of the building housing the quality inspection department at the Bac Ninh factory and is conducting disinfection operations on the building and shuttle buses. Employees who had close contact with the confirmed case were also quarantined. However, since the employee belonged to the quality inspection department, the production line is reportedly operating normally for the time being.

However, it is known that this employee worked at the Samsung Display Bac Ninh factory until the 6th, the day before Vietnamese authorities imposed a lockdown on the Ha Loi area due to concerns over a cluster infection, raising fears of further spread. Consequently, the Bac Ninh Provincial People's Committee reportedly requested hundreds of Samsung Display employees not to travel to other regions.
