Bill Gates: "10 out of 100 COVID-19 Vaccines Are Promising... Expected Release by September Next Year"
[Asia Economy Reporter Shinwon Yoon] Microsoft (MS) founder Bill Gates predicted that a vaccine for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) will be developed by next year.
According to a report by the Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 9th, Gates evaluated during a live chat on the recruitment information site LinkedIn the previous day that "out of the 100 COVID-19 vaccines currently being developed worldwide, 10 are very promising."
The vaccines he positively evaluated included the one jointly developed by the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) under the National Institutes of Health and the pharmaceutical company Moderna.
However, Gates expected that an effective vaccine for COVID-19 treatment would only be available by September next year.
Gates stated that the vaccine funded by the foundation he established is being developed at the fastest speed, and development will proceed while accepting some side effects. It is known that he is currently cooperating with several pharmaceutical companies.
Regarding the United States, where the number of confirmed cases is rapidly increasing recently, he predicted that if the spread of COVID-19 is controlled by next month, the resumption of manufacturing and construction industries, as well as school reopening, will be possible.
