CJ Freshway, Haengdamdo Rest Area Downbound Specialized Restaurant Zone Renovation Reopens
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] The southbound dining area at Haengdamdo Rest Area, operated by CJ Freshway, is being transformed into a complex cultural space.
CJ Freshway announced on the 9th that it recently completed renovation work on the southbound dining area at Haengdamdo Rest Area and has reopened it.
The newly renovated southbound dining area at Haengdamdo Rest Area features a design concept based on the trending keyword "Newtro" (New + Retro), and includes Korean and Chinese restaurants that are popular among family customers.
Covering an area of 1,430㎡ (431 pyeong), the facility immediately catches the eye with retro-colored wall interiors, bridge-shaped structures on the ceiling, and lighting objects installed throughout the space.
By modernly reinterpreting the geographical characteristics of Haengdamdo Rest Area, which overlooks the West Sea, the space allows visitors of all ages, including the millennial generation who value emotional experiences, to enjoy CJ Freshway’s differentiated gourmet experience.
The hall space, with a total of 350 seats, offers seating arrangements tailored to group size, including 30 single seats for solo diners, 216 four-person seats, and 72 six-person seats for families of four or more, enabling comfortable dining.
The dining area houses seven food service brands, providing a wide range of menu options, including the self-service cafeteria "Fresh Fine," the Korean restaurant "Samcheongdong Sobahn" known for its various banchan (side dish) menus, and "Gyodong Jjamppong," a jjamppong specialty restaurant with a 50-year tradition.
Invisible design elements were also emphasized. Ceiling-mounted air purifiers manage air quality in real time, and eco-friendly materials were used to minimize VOC (volatile organic compounds) and carbon dioxide emissions.
Additionally, an integrated system water purifier and automatic cup sterilizer provide safe drinking water to customers, and separate hand sanitizers for adults and children are installed next to the cashier to ensure thorough hygiene management before and after meals.
Furthermore, four kiosk-type automatic ordering systems were installed inside the store to enable contactless ordering, and wireless and wired mobile phone charging devices were placed throughout the space to enhance customer convenience.

We plan to add various cultural experience elements such as performances and exhibitions in the future, evolving it into a complex cultural space rather than just a rest area for simple breaks.”
