Yeongdeungpo-gu Supports Medical Institutions and Pharmacies Including Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital with 90 Million Won in Quarantine Supplies
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) is providing quarantine supplies worth a total of 90 million KRW, including mobile negative pressure devices, thermal cameras, and N95 masks to local medical institutions on the front lines of COVID-19 prevention, as well as masks and hand sanitizers to pharmacies selling public masks.
Currently, the district has four private medical institutions operating screening clinics for COVID-19 testing: Hallym University Gangnam Sacred Heart Hospital, Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital, Seongae Hospital, and Myongji St. Mary's Hospital. There are a total of 231 pharmacies selling public masks for infection prevention.
The medical staff and pharmacists here are working day and night on various medical activities including infectious disease testing and treatment to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community, but they are inevitably exposed to a high risk of infection.
On the 3rd, a tragic incident occurred where an internal medicine doctor in Gyeongsan, Gyeongbuk, died after being infected following treatment of a confirmed COVID-19 patient. This was the first death of a medical professional in Korea and made the entire nation realize the urgent need for protective measures for medical workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 response.
Accordingly, the district supports local medical institutions with necessary supplies such as mobile negative pressure devices, thermal cameras, and N95 masks to strengthen COVID-19 response and quarantine systems.
The district plans to provide a total subsidy of 50 million KRW to the four medical institutions, allowing each to purchase necessary supplies according to their own plans and circumstances.
Additionally, the district supports pharmacies selling public masks with quarantine supplies worth about 20 million KRW, including 1,155 hand sanitizers, 2,310 boxes of disinfectant wipes, and 462 bottles of bleach needed for internal disinfection.
The district plans to provide an additional 20 million KRW worth of supplies to pharmacies in the future, further striving to create a safe working environment for pharmacists.
Along with this, the district has previously supported hospital-level medical institutions such as nursing hospitals with 5,000 hand sanitizers and 25,000 masks, and conducts daily inspections of local medical institutions' COVID-19 response status to thoroughly prevent the spread of COVID-19 and infection in the community.
