[Photo] Songpa-gu Macheon 2-dong Receives Applause for Delivering Nutritious Soup to Elderly Living Alone
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) is receiving praise for delivering soup (guk) every Wednesday until April 29 to 50 elderly residents living alone in Machon 2-dong who are at risk of neglect and nutritional deficiency due to COVID-19.
The "Love Soup Delivery" service in Machon 2-dong was started to fill the welfare gap after senior centers and senior citizen restaurants suspended operations due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
It is carried out with the support of the Hanmaeum Experience Farm Steering Committee, and assistance from the Saemaeul Women's Association and welfare community leaders.
The Saemaeul Women's Association cooks and packages the soup every week, and the welfare community leader visits the recipients' homes to deliver it. Along with delivering the soup, the welfare community leader checks on the well-being of the elderly.
Lee Ok-ju, head of the Saemaeul Women's Association who helped with the Love Soup Delivery for elderly living alone, said, "In a situation where the entire nation is striving to overcome COVID-19, I am grateful that this small effort can be of help," adding, "I hope the elderly enjoy the soup and overcome these difficult times well."
