Elderly Residents in Gangnam-gu Receive One-on-One Digital Device Training from Robots
Selected for Ministry of Industry Public Project Worth 1 Billion KRW... 1:1 Robot-Led Digital Device Training for Middle-Aged and Elderly
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) was finally selected on the 6th as the lead institution for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's '2020 Digital Divide Reduction Education Robot Distribution Project.'
This project, with a budget of 1 billion KRW, was proposed by a total of eight institutions including Gangnam-gu, Gangdong, Gwanak, Yangcheon, and Jungnang districts, Seoul Digital Foundation, Torook Co., Ltd., and Inno Contents Network Co., Ltd. It aims to reduce the digital divide between generations by providing one-on-one customized education on the use of digital devices such as smartphones to the elderly through robots.
The district plans to deploy 40 educational robots to three senior welfare facilities and provide services to about 1,000 elderly people during the period from August to November. In the future, it will accelerate the activation of the project by developing new programs and expanding educational locations.

Gong Seung-ho, head of the New Design Division, said, "We expect that the information utilization ability of the digitally vulnerable elderly will improve through this project," adding, "As we enter the first year of the smart city, we will continue to proactively introduce cutting-edge technologies to become the most livable and convenient city."
