Gwangju Dong-gu Sends 30,000 Masks from Sister City Yuexiu District, China
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 7th that Wushu District of Guangzhou, China, its sister city, sent 30,000 masks as a gesture of overcoming the COVID-19 crisis.
Regarding this mask support, the Wushu District side conveyed that it was sent as a token of gratitude for the great help received from the delegation in urban regeneration, environment, and education fields dispatched from Dong-gu last year, expressing the sister city's wish for the swift end of COVID-19.
Since establishing a sister city relationship in 1997, Dong-gu and Wushu District have maintained strong friendly exchanges across various fields such as culture and arts, festivals, urban regeneration, and education.
In particular, both districts have strengthened their close friendship by discussing common interests, such as dispatching performance groups to the ‘Gwangbu Myohoe Festival’ held every February in Wushu District and the ‘Chueok-ui Chungjang Festival’ held every October in Dong-gu, aiming to revitalize the local economy.
The 25 boxes of masks received this time were inscribed with the phrase ‘風月同天 千里同緣 (Pungwol Dongcheon Cheonri Dongyeon),’ meaning ‘Though far apart, hearts are together; bonds extend a thousand miles,’ expressing hopes for wise overcoming of COVID-19 and mutual well-being.
