Candidate Sang-Ik Lee for Hampyeong County Governor Promises Early Completion of Market Modernization Project on the 5th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Lee Sang-ik, the Democratic Party candidate for the Hampyeong County Mayor by-election, held a campaign rally in front of Hampyeong Terminal on the 7th and promised to "revitalize the stagnant commercial district of Hampyeong-eup by expanding stay-type festivals, creating a wisteria walking trail along the Hampyeong Stream, and completing the modernization project of the 5-day market ahead of schedule."
The rally, held to coincide with Health Day and Hampyeong Market Day, was attended by Democratic Party National Assembly candidate Lee Gae-ho, provincial and county council members, family, and supporters in large numbers.
Candidate Lee said, "Our hometown Hampyeong's commercial district is so stagnant that there is hardly any sign of people after 8 p.m. even in the town center," adding, "To revitalize the commercial district, we will expand festivals such as the Butterfly Festival, Chrysanthemum Festival, Bibimbap Festival, and Silver Grass Festival to develop stay-type tourism festivals and make it a tourist destination enjoyed throughout all four seasons."
He also stated, "We will create a wisteria walking trail along the Hampyeong Stream and Expo Park to make it a famous spot where not only residents but also people from Gwangju, Mokpo, and across the country can gather and enjoy," emphasizing, "In particular, we will complete the modernization project of the 5-day market ahead of schedule and expand public parking lots to alleviate the daily inconveniences of the townspeople."
Lee added, "To revive the underdeveloped Hampyeong economy and breathe new life into Hampyeong, which is on the brink of disappearance, a strong ruling party candidate must be elected," and continued, "If I become county mayor, Lee Gae-ho becomes a member of the National Assembly, and Lee Nak-yeon, a leading presidential candidate, is elected, we can join forces to solve Hampyeong’s long-standing projects one by one."
Meanwhile, before the rally, candidate Lee held a moment of silence for those who passed away due to COVID-19 in observance of Health Day and read a letter of appreciation to healthcare workers.
