Gyeongnam Fire Headquarters Establishes 'Disaster Joint Response System' for City and Province Border Areas
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] The Gyeongsangnam-do Fire Headquarters (Chief Heo Seok-gon) announced on the 7th that it will establish an initial joint response system in border areas adjacent to the firefighting jurisdictions of six cities and provinces including Busan, Daegu, Ulsan, Jeonbuk, Jeonnam, Gyeongbuk, and Changwon City, to provide citizen-centered fire safety services when disasters occur.
Until now, disaster occurrences in border areas have been initially responded to by the fire stations in the jurisdiction, and if necessary, support dispatches from nearby cities and provinces were operated as a system.
However, starting from the 1st of this month, along with the transition of firefighters to national public officials, the joint response system is being promoted to dispatch the nearest fire station based on distance rather than jurisdiction, concentrating superior firefighting forces from the early stages of disasters to protect citizens' lives and property.
The joint response areas in the Gyeongnam border region consist of a total of 68 areas, including 18 villages (ri) in 7 cities and counties under Gyeongnam jurisdiction, 32 areas under other cities and provinces, and 18 sections of highway border areas. When disasters such as fires occur in these joint response areas, firefighting forces from both the jurisdiction and other cities and provinces will simultaneously dispatch to enhance initial response capabilities, secure public safety, minimize property damage, and fulfill their role as the comprehensive land disaster response agency.
Additionally, in the event of large-scale or special target fires, a mobilization system has been established to jointly utilize special vehicles (ladder, articulating, chemical, unmanned demolition, etc.) owned by each city and province, enabling three-dimensional firefighting activities to promptly manage disasters and minimize damage.
