Yoo Myung-hee Discusses COVID-19 Response with Indonesian Minister of Economy
Reaffirming Intention to Sign RCEP Within the Year... Also Promoting Korea-Indonesia CEPA Signing
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Yoo Myung-hee, the Chief Trade Negotiator of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, held a video conference on the 6th with Airlangga Hartarno, Minister of Indonesia's Economic Coordinating Ministry, to discuss international cooperation measures in response to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
On this day, Chief Yoo emphasized the urgent need to facilitate trade in goods and services, maintain global supply chains, and guarantee the movement of essential personnel such as businesspeople.
She also requested strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation systems with ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries and expanding interest and support for Korean companies operating locally.
Both countries agreed that activating trade and investment through trade agreement signings is important to overcome COVID-19.
In particular, they reaffirmed their intention to sign the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) within this year. Regarding the Korea-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), they also agreed to pursue signing at an early date once the COVID-19 situation stabilizes.
On the 7th, a special video conference of RCEP senior representatives is scheduled to be held. Our side will be represented by Yeo Han-gu, Director-General for Trade Negotiations at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

An official from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated, "This meeting is the first senior representatives meeting held since the spread of COVID-19," adding, "Our side will emphasize the necessity of cooperation in response to COVID-19 at the RCEP level and discuss concrete measures for signing within this year."
