Unprecedented Advanced Medical Device Joint Production Agreement
Plan to Supply Over 4,000 Units from Initial Contract through Joint Production
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Ventilator manufacturer MECICS announced on the 6th at 10 a.m. that it signed a joint production agreement for ventilators with CU Medical Systems and Pabernine at MECICS's headquarters in Paju to respond to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The agreement was established to respond to the explosively increased urgent orders amid the fierce "stockpiling war" for ventilators in each country worldwide in response to the catastrophic pandemic COVID-19.
In various European countries including Italy, ventilators are being provided first to younger patients with a higher chance of survival. Some elderly patients have died because they could not receive ventilator treatment. Medical staff are also faced with difficult ethical choices in selecting patients who should be prioritized for ventilator treatment and those who should not.
This agreement was realized through MECICS's decision to take corporate risks as an unprecedented case of cooperation in advanced medical devices, and the empathy and consensus of CU Medical Systems and Pabernine, which have sufficient medical device production experience and facilities.
The three companies decided to jointly undertake all production and procurement roles necessary for ventilator production and quality control as the situation progresses urgently.
The first confirmed items are MECICS's main COVID-19 response products, the ventilators MTV1000 and MV2000 (EVO5). The production quantity targets jointly set by CU Medical Systems and Pabernine are ▲ 2,000 units of portable ventilators (MTV1000) and ▲ 2,000 units of intensive care ventilators (MV2000 EVO5), respectively.
