Gangseo-gu Scholarship Foundation Selects 70 Scholars for 2020
Scholarships of Approximately 180 Million KRW Awarded to 25 High School Students and 45 University Students... University Students Apply by April 10, High School Students by April 22
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] The Gangseo-gu Office (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) Scholarship Foundation (Chairman Song Jin-su) is recruiting scholarship students to nurture outstanding local talents and promote community culture.
The number of selected students is 25 high school students and 45 university students (a total of 70) from the local area who are facing financial difficulties, and a total scholarship fund of approximately 180 million KRW will be provided.
The scholarships are divided into four categories: ▲ Residents' Unity Scholarship ▲ Model Scholarship ▲ Special Talent Scholarship ▲ Small Amount Scholarship.
The Residents' Unity Scholarship provides up to 3.5 million KRW per semester. It offers a 4-year scholarship to first-year university students with excellent grades in their third year of high school, and a 1-year scholarship to second, third, and fourth-year university students with excellent grades in the past year.
The Model and Special Talent Scholarships provide 1 million KRW for high school students and up to 2 million KRW for university students, while the Small Amount Scholarship is 200,000 KRW and supports interest payments on student loans for university students who have taken out loans.
Applicants must have continuously resided in Gangseo-gu for more than one year as of the announcement date and be high school or university students (including freshmen of 2020).
However, students who receive full tuition or scholarships from the government, local governments, other foundations, or schools are excluded.
The application deadline is April 10 for university students and April 22 for high school students.
Students wishing to apply should submit the required documents in person at the Gangseo-gu Scholarship Foundation office or send them by mail (615 Gonghang-daero, Gangseo-gu, 1st floor, Scholarship Support Team).
Required documents include ▲ Scholarship Application Form ▲ Consent Form for Personal Information Provision ▲ Health Insurance Payment Confirmation and Eligibility Certificate ▲ Resident Registration Abstract ▲ Certificate of Enrollment.
Additionally, for Residents' Unity, Model, and Special Talent Scholarship applicants, the following must be submitted: ▲ Recommendation Letters (from the school principal and local community chief) ▲ Self-Introduction Letter ▲ Academic Transcript ▲ Resident Registration Certificate ▲ Copy of Lease Contract ▲ Tuition Payment Receipt. Small Amount Scholarship applicants must additionally submit loan verification documents.
The application form can be downloaded from the Gangseo-gu Scholarship Foundation website (http://janghak.gangseo.seoul.kr).
The selection results will be decided through the Scholarship Selection Committee and are scheduled to be announced in May on the Scholarship Foundation website under ‘Notices’.
A representative of the Gangseo-gu Scholarship Foundation said, “This will serve as a stepping stone for students who find it difficult to receive education due to economic reasons,” and added, “We will support students to overcome their financial circumstances and grow.”
Established in 2001, the Gangseo-gu Scholarship Foundation has awarded scholarships totaling approximately 1.25 billion KRW to 987 students to date, instilling hope and courage in students facing financial difficulties and contributing to nurturing future local talents.
