CU Partners with Mataju to Launch 'Mataju Self Check-in'
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Convenience store CU announced on the 6th that it will start ‘CU Mataju Self Check-in,’ a service that stores luggage using parcel machines inside stores.
Mataju is a luggage storage specialized application operated by Mata Company, providing a type of shared warehouse storage service that stores items on behalf of customers’ limited living spaces. When customers choose a reservation visit, a pickup agent visits their home after 7 days to collect the luggage, with a pickup fee of 7,000 KRW per box charged separately from the storage fee.
The new Mataju Self Check-in linked with CU allows customers to visit CU stores directly to leave their luggage. It costs about 3,000 KRW per box, less than half the price of the existing pickup service, and the biggest advantage is that customers can leave their items immediately at their preferred time.
The reason CU continuously introduces lifestyle-oriented services like Mataju is to provide life conveniences optimized for single-person household lifestyles by utilizing the characteristics of convenience stores operating 24/7, 365 days a year.
The CU Mataju Self Check-in method is to press ‘Shopping Mall Check-in’ on the first screen of the parcel machine inside the store and enter the Mataju exclusive approval number. The luggage that can be checked in is up to 20kg per box. Storage fees are 8,000 KRW per month for boxes (items stored inside boxes) and 10,000 KRW per month for hangers (clothes stored hanging), and a 30% discount is available when prepaying for 6 months of storage with a long-term contract.
To commemorate the introduction of this service, CU will hold an event throughout April where a total of 101 people will be selected by lottery to receive mobile gift certificates worth up to 50,000 KRW. Participants can enter by solving a simple quiz on the CU membership app PocketCU.
