Seoul Asan Hospital's Second Patient, Mother of Newborn in Same Room as First Confirmed Case (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The second confirmed case of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) at Seoul Asan Hospital was identified as the mother of an infant about 20 days old who was hospitalized and receiving treatment.
On the afternoon of the 5th, Kwak Jin, head of the Patient Management Team at the Central Disease Control Headquarters, stated at a regular briefing held at the Osong Disease Control Headquarters in Chungbuk, "(At Seoul Asan Hospital) it was confirmed that the infant of the second confirmed patient was hospitalized at Asan Hospital after birth due to a neonatal disease requiring surgery."
Asan Hospital reported that a 9-year-old child was the first confirmed case on the 31st of last month, and the mother (40 years old) of the infant about 20 days old was confirmed as the second case the day before.
The infant moved to the 136 ward room (6-person room) where the 9-year-old child was hospitalized on the 28th of last month and used the same room until the 9-year-old child was confirmed positive on the 31st. Kwak said, "The infant was admitted through the Asan Hospital emergency room, underwent surgery, and after a recovery process in the intensive care unit, was transferred to a general ward on the 8th of last month."
