[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family is promoting a 'Visiting Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence Prevention Education' program to help young employees actively respond to sexual harassment, sexual violence, and digital sex crimes in the workplace.
This is a concrete measure to implement the 'Youth Life Improvement Plan' announced at the 201st National Policy Issue Inspection Coordination Meeting on the 26th of last month, and the Ministry plans to further strengthen the safety net against sexual harassment and sexual violence targeting youth.
First, visiting prevention education will be conducted for young employees in general companies. The aim is to share cases of sexual harassment and sexual violence experienced in the workplace immediately after entering society upon joining a company, and to cultivate gender sensitivity to help create a gender-equal workplace culture. In addition, customized violence prevention education materials for young employees will be produced in various formats such as publications and videos and distributed to companies. Companies wishing to receive visiting violence prevention education can apply through the 'Integrated Prevention Education Management Site' and other channels.
Also, the 'Comprehensive Support Center for the Eradication of Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence' will be operated within the Korea Women's Human Rights Institute starting this year to support victims of sexual harassment and sexual violence in the workplace to receive counseling with peace of mind and recover from damage quickly. The Comprehensive Support Center provides victim-tailored information such as how to respond to initial trauma, reporting and case handling procedures, and support for recovery. To ensure victims can consult without fear of secondary damage such as disadvantages that may occur after reporting an incident, all consultations at the center are provided anonymously.
For small businesses lacking well-established sexual harassment prevention systems or institutions struggling with case handling due to low expertise of personnel, a case handling support team will be dispatched upon request. Institutions wishing for consultation on organizational culture improvement or case handling can apply to the Comprehensive Support Center by April 30.
Furthermore, the Ministry operates a 'Youth Gender Equality Culture Platform' led by youth. While supporting team-based cultural innovation activities, it is expected that last year's activity results will be reflected in policy improvements. Participation is possible not only centrally but also in Incheon, Gyeonggi, Jeonnam, and Gyeongbuk regions.
In addition, the Ministry runs a 'Youth Women Mentoring' program to support young women's social advancement. Especially this year, mentors in new business fields such as STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) and the 4th Industrial Revolution will be appointed to provide mentoring suitable for new occupational environments.
