Return of the 'Motnani Gamja'... SSG.com Hosts 'Fresh Food Special Exhibition'
7-Day Online Sale
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] SSG.com is launching an online sales promotion event to help farms struggling due to the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), including online school openings.
SSG.com announced on the 2nd that it will hold a special exhibition titled "Reviving Our Farms Affected by COVID-19" for one week until the 8th. To promote the consumption of fresh food, it will gather a total of about 1,000 products including agricultural, marine, and livestock products and offer discounts of up to 33%. The sales scale is approximately 10 billion KRW.
In particular, it will sell so-called "motnani" products, which are of excellent quality but have not sold well due to external blemishes. "Gangwon-do Motnani Potatoes" 3kg will be sold at 4,990 KRW with a daily limited quantity of 600 units. "Gyeongbuk Bojogae Apples," which have blemishes or spots but the same taste, will be sold at 5,980 KRW per 3kg without quantity restrictions.
"Cheongdo Hanjae Minari," hydroponically grown in Cheongdo, Gyeongbuk, 1kg will be offered at 10,900 KRW, and a large live abalone from Wando, Jeonnam, will be available at 4,480 KRW each. Environmentally friendly agricultural products, mainly supplied for school meals, are also prepared. About 100 products including strawberries, rice, and leafy vegetables will be sold at discounts of up to 30%.
Yoo Seo-hee, a buyer from SSG.com’s Fresh Food Team, said, "Farms are facing difficulties due to a combination of labor shortages, a sharp decrease in harvest volumes, and external situations making exports difficult. We planned this event with the goal of selling as many products as possible at reasonable prices by fully utilizing SSG.com’s infrastructure, which has strengths in fresh food."
