Installation of Pet Leash Holders at 4 Locations Including Mannam Plaza in Ui-dong, Gangbuk-gu
Created a Stand Following a Near Dog Bite Incident in the Park
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Gyeom-su) has pilot-installed 'leash holders for companion dogs' in parks and other places used by residents and their pets.
As complaints related to safety measures such as not wearing leashes have increased every year among animal-related civil complaints, the district has hired dedicated personnel and operates a joint public-private regular guidance and enforcement team with animal protection honorary inspectors. The complaints encountered during this process became the impetus for the project.
A dog standing on a leash in a park growled aggressively at a child who came out for a walk with their parents. Fortunately, the owner appeared just in time and the situation was resolved, but the startled child ended up bursting into tears.
Fortunately, it did not lead to an accident, but it was a tense moment. The district confirmed the facts through park CCTV and found that this incident occurred while the dog owner briefly went to the restroom.
Accordingly, the district first installed leash holders in four locations frequently used by residents and children, including Solsaem Children's Park and Ui-dong Meeting Square. This was a measure to establish a safe and mature companion culture and create a city where animals and people coexist. In the future, depending on resident satisfaction, the installation will be expanded to parks, walking trails, village squares, and other high-demand areas.
