LGU+ KemtroNics Launches Autonomous Shuttle Pilot Project in Sejong City
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Following the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed with Sejong City in August last year to promote autonomous driving services, LG Uplus is enhancing the completeness of autonomous driving demonstrations through a technical MOU with KemtroNics.
LG Uplus announced on the 26th that it will launch an autonomous driving shuttle service demonstration project in Sejong Special Self-Governing City in collaboration with KemtroNics. This is part of the autonomous driving specialized city development project that has been jointly promoted with Sejong City since July last year. On the 25th, the two companies held a remote meeting connecting LG Uplus’s Yongsan headquarters and KemtroNics’s Pangyo headquarters, where they signed the MOU and agreed to establish and operate a working-level consultative group to prepare detailed cooperation plans. Ultimately, the goal is to demonstrate an autonomous driving shuttle operating at low speeds within residential complexes.
Through this agreement, LG Uplus will be responsible for providing 5G communication networks, dynamic high-precision maps, and high-precision positioning solutions for Sejong City’s autonomous driving services. The two companies plan to complete system development and inspection for the autonomous driving shuttle service operation soon, and finish related quality testing and certification by next month. This will enable Sejong City to begin demonstration operations of the low-speed autonomous driving shuttle service in residential complexes as early as the first half of the year.
