Bucheon-si Increases Housing Benefit Recipients and Raises Support Amounts This Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province will continue the housing benefit program this year for households with income recognition amounts below the standard, aiming to stabilize housing and improve the environment for vulnerable groups.
This program supports rent for jeonse and monthly rental housing as well as home repair costs for households facing financial difficulties. Eligible applicants are those whose income recognition amount, reflecting household income and assets, is 45% or less of the median income (2.13 million KRW or less for a four-person household). Support is provided regardless of the income of the obligor.
According to the city, starting this year, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's housing benefit program guidelines have expanded the eligibility from 44% to 45% of the median income.
Additionally, the standard rent support for tenant households has been increased from 7.5% to 14.3%, and the unit price for housing improvement support for owner-occupied households has also been raised by 21%.
So far this year, 13,858 households in Bucheon have received housing benefit support.
A Bucheon city official stated, "With the expansion of eligibility and increase in support amounts, more citizens will receive greater benefits. We will actively identify those in need of housing benefit services to ensure no blind spots occur."
