Pohang Marine Corps Nurse in Charge of Blood Donation Tests Positive for COVID-19... Over 90 Soldiers Quarantined
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Ju Cheol-in] A nurse affiliated with the Korean Red Cross, who was in charge of blood donations for soldiers at the 1st Marine Division in Pohang, Gyeongbuk, tested positive for COVID-19. About 90 soldiers who had contact with the nurse were also quarantined.
The Korean Red Cross Daegu-Gyeongbuk Blood Center announced on the 21st that nurse A (45, female) was confirmed positive for COVID-19.
Accordingly, the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Blood Center office, eight blood donation buses, and eleven blood collection vehicles were urgently disinfected, and epidemiological investigations were conducted while close-contact staff were instructed to self-quarantine.
Ms. A developed symptoms of body aches and sore throat on the 19th of this month, took leave the next day, underwent testing, and was confirmed positive on the 21st. Before symptoms appeared, she conducted group blood collection duties at the Pohang Marine Corps base on the 18th and 19th.
The 1st Marine Division, upon receiving the confirmation of Ms. A’s positive test on the morning of the 21st, isolated about 90 soldiers who had first contact with her during blood donation in a separate facility and is currently testing them.
They are also identifying secondary contacts, restricting movement within the unit, intensively conducting disinfection and sterilization, and making efforts to prevent further spread.
