Seongnam Citizen Patrol Unit Launches COVID-19 Prevention Efforts
[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Seongnam Citizen Patrol, which plays the role of a 'neighborhood safety keeper' such as patrolling crime-prone areas and providing safe return home services for women, is expanding its activities to include disinfection.
Seongnam City announced on the 11th that out of 189 citizen patrol members, 83 members (44%) from 18 districts' daytime patrol teams will be deployed to the 'civil-government-military joint disinfection task force.'
This measure aims to strengthen the disinfection network to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 infections.
The citizen patrol members form teams of 3 to 4 people and patrol their assigned areas from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, focusing disinfection efforts on hygiene-vulnerable areas such as sewage systems, garbage disposal sites, and bus stops.
They also disinfect places requested by neighborhood residents.
To support this, the city provided 24 sprayer-type disinfection devices (5ℓ), one per citizen patrol team.
The citizen patrol's disinfection activities will continue until the COVID-19 situation stabilizes.
A city official emphasized, "Citizen patrol members are familiar with the geography of residential alleyways, enabling efficient disinfection of vulnerable neighborhood areas," adding, "This will also help alleviate residents' vague anxieties about COVID-19 infiltration by eliminating disinfection blind spots."
Additionally, the city decided to lend disinfection equipment (5ℓ) to residents who wish to perform self-disinfection.
